My son and I just did just that, we installed a 5 spd tranny in a 1974 courier. The 5 speed is about 3” longer than the 4 speed. You will need to modify your transmission cross member, and either have your drive line shortened or new one made. IF you have a new one made you can go with a one piece driveline and get away from having a carier bearing. It is a tight fit, but it will fit, we installed the tranny first with the motor out then installed the motor and put the 2 together. Good luck !
