Car engine died while driving

Purchased 2 months ago, ran fine , no issues.
Today i am driving in traffic ,engine light came on
.engine died immediately. I coasted to side of road
. Got a tow home, after car sat and cooled started
fine , no engine light, no indication of the reason
why this happened... im glad i wasnt on the
freeway... can you give me a list of possibilities of
what needs checking?

Check engine light maybe off be it may still have stored that code for why it come on have scanned for codes.
