Question type: Maintenance & Repair

mds keeps setting the engine light with a p3400 code

1 Answer

I had this happen on my 2010 Ram 1500. One of the lifters seized and the roller was not turning. It will grind a path in the cam. The only solution is to replace the lifter (May as well replace all of them) and the cam. It’s a pricey job- my estimates were between $3000 and $5500 (included getting rid of the MDS system). Luckily I had a friend do the work cheap and the parts cost me $900. I got it all done for $1300. This is known issue with 2009 to 2012 Dodge 1500 5.7 engines. Good luck!
