Key stuck in ignition with 2016 Outback in park

Asked by Jun 18, 2019 at 10:09 AM about the 2009 Subaru Outback

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Before I had even had my 2016 Outback for three years, and while it was still
under warranty, I was unable to get the key out of the ignition after putting the
car in park.  Was told that I probably caused the problem with the way I put
the car in park.  Had to pay over $500 for a new gear shift.  Does this sound
right to you?  I never had a major repair like this in so young a vehicle.

I also have a 2016 Subaru Outback with the same problem (key stuck in ignition). So far I can eventually get the key out by playing with the shifter but how long will that last? I was told it would cost over $500 to fix the problem. This should have been a recall.

Same situation: 2016 Outback, key stuck in ignition after putting it in park. Cost to repair $575. Not happy.
