I can buy a 2009 PT with a busted timing belt but afraid of all the stories of valve and engine damage. What should I do?

The car has 150k and was running when the belt broke. I'm sure I can replace the belt and water pump but not sure if it's worth the risk?

Either pay scrap yard prices for it (maybe $200) or walk away. Price the cost of a new engine installed and compare that to the cost of a running 2009 PT.
