It won't accelerate over 20 mph

Asked by Jun 13, 2019 at 12:34 AM about the 2001 Honda Passport

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

What could be the reason it runs hot and won't
accel. Over 20 mph

Sounds like you have an overheating problem that caused the car to put itself into "Limp Mode". The computer is limiting speed to protect the engine from further damage. Limp mode can be caused by several things: cam, crank, or knock sensors; timing, etc. Another possible cause is the transmission itself or the torque converter.
