Extreme delayed power behind acceleration

Asked by Amanda Apr 30, 2018 at 09:41 PM about the 2001 Honda Civic

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Coming through town today my car felt like the idle
slipped when I gave it gas then the check engine
light came on after that I shifted into third gear to
try to accelerate and there was no power behind
the RPMs it was showing almost like my old
Cavalier did when the engine blew but in my Civic
the engine did not start knocking or making any
sounds once I barely got home I pulled in the
driveway and revved the RPMs to about 4000 for
only a second then the car overheated on my way
home I could barely get my Civic up to speed as if
the engine was blown but the engine is not
showing signs of being blown, suggestions?
