Engine case pricing

Im looking for an  engine casing, for my 75 super
beetle and the average price for a new one is
between $1000-1300, i found one that was ported
and cleaned for 500. Is that a good deal

Hard to say. If it was ported at home in someone's home workshop I would run away fast.
