My alternator isnt charging

1974 vw super beetle, brand new alternator, brand new battery, and the alternator isnt
putting out

it reads 11.6 volts (same as the battery is reading)

right now im basically just charging my battery every night and running off that to get
me to work and back everyday.

If everything is ok, properly wired and good grounding and all parts are ok, then your problem is demagnetised. Magnetised it and your all set. happened to me twice on different bugs and it work. just dont remember how to go about it. search the web on how to magnetise your alternator.
