1972 super beetle vw fuse blowing

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Driving car blows fuse car shuts off.
Replace fuse put key to on position,
fuse immediately blows. Fuse
number 8. Wires run to flasher
switch. Bad switch common?
Opinions suggestions.

yes...disconnect the battery....use an ohm meter to check from hot to ground on both sides of the switch and the case of the switch too....if anythin' is leaking to ground...this is where the fuse is gettin' blown~

I've had two of these beetles catch on fire...one with automatic-stick-shift had the wrong battery and the back seat started the fire...went down like a house of cards~
