why is the flat towing speed so low

when flat towing a 2005 element with 4 wheels down you are liminted to the speed you can go ( such as 55 mph ). I have asked everyone I  could think of and recevied no good solid answers to this question, will it hurt the tranny or will it hurt yhe all wheel drive system somehow? Is there A way to overcome to overcome whatever it is

You can have a cut-off installed in most vehicles that will allow for flat towing. However, 55mph is a recognized upper limit for safe flat-towing in most things. My tow dolly I used to haul junk cars with recommended no faster than 45 MPH, and it was originally a U-Haul unit intended for towing wheels-up.
