My truck has a new block. But now it dies as soon as it starts. Got a new fuel pump, new distributor, new plugs and wires, a 2 yr old computer that I had got new, new distributor cap and rotor.
Aamco had found that when it warms up the
timing advances 40 degrees and runs
terrible...but even cold it does not want to
stay running unless I keep my foot on the
gas pedal.....just put the new distributor in
today could I have set it 180 off? It starts up
right away and I got my wires in the correct
firing order....what should I do next?
If your new distributor was 180° off it wouldn't run at all. When you set your base timing disconnect the 4 way plug at the distributor. Let it warm up. Using a timing light set the ignition timing to the spec found on the emissions label under the hood. The transmission should be in drive with the parking brake set. Engine idling at about 600 RPM. when your done shut off the engine and plug the 4 way connector back in. BTW unplugging that connector will make the check engine light come on. That's normal. Just disconnect the negative (-) battery cable for about 3 minutes after your done to clear the computer. HTH. - Jim
