1998 Ford Windstar, No Start Issue

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello, I have a 1998 ford windstar 3.8l that has had an issue starting. I
current have a single click from the solenoid but no cranking from the starter.
I cannot get the vehicle to start at all. In the past i've had the issue of the
vehicle not starting unless I adjusted the shifter into a certain spot in the park
position, if it was slightly off the vehicle wouldn't start. Also occasionally
when i would get the vehicle to start it would want to stall shortly after
starting it while it was in park and i would have to rev up the rpm's to get the
engine to not stall. I have had the check engine light on recently and I'll be
able to pull the codes off of it tomorrow if needed because the vehicle is
currently at my job and not at the house. In the past I also noticed that if i
accelerated quickly the engine would hesitate between gears so this lead me
to believe that the neutral safety switch was failing because after researching
online i discovered that for my make and model that safety switch is also a
transmission range sensor so i replaced the switch and believed i aligned it
up correctly but that failed to fix the vehicle. the battery is ready at 12.4 volts
and the terminals seem to be clean and tight and free of corrosion. I'm not
sure what else to do at this point and even hit the starter a few times while
cranking the key but only heard the solenoid clicking a single time and
nothing else. Thank you to anyone that has the time to respond.
