Where to locate Engine Number.

I am struggling to find the engine number
for my 2002 model Mazda 323 protege and
I can not find it anywhere.. please help!

The eighth digit of your VIN number will identify which engine your car has. the VIN number is located on your driver's side dash and it can be viewed through the windshield from outside the vehicle. It will also be on your registration card and title.

My 2002 Mazda 323 protege 1.8 is located on a tab sticking out of the block on the front of the block just below the coolant hose. It is usually a bit rusty so i sanded it with a bit of fine sandpaper then i rubbed white chalk on it so the chalk embedded into the number.
