Why do I smell gas in the oil?

Asked by Wanda Sep 17, 2017 at 01:10 AM about the 1994 GMC Sierra 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

.  Last summer a hose busted on me and my truck ran a little hot.  After I replaced the hose the truck ran like crap.  Changed the oil and filter, then changed the plugs, it still didn't run right.  Finally put a new distributor on and that helped somewhat.  You can smell gas when it is running it did sit up for a few months before the new distributor was put on.  Even though the truck had not been driven except for when it was being worked on the oil was very nasty black.  Today I was changing the oil and filter and the oil smelled like gas.Any suggestions?
