Ford Explorer cut out while driving on highway and now won't engage in any gear

Asked by Oct 17, 2017 at 07:31 PM about the 1998 Ford Explorer

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was driving on the high way and my car cut out.  I pulled over on the side of
the highway and cranked it back up but when put in drive or reverse it will not
engage.  I have been having typical transition problem where it sometimes has
a hard time shifting from 2nd to 3rd.  Is my transition totally shot or can I repair
this?
