how do i get the brakelight cover off

If you mean cover itself,it is sealed not to be removed,if you want to change a bulb,undo screw,s in the corner,s of it,and remove and replace bulbs.

On the 98 explorer the rear tail light bulbs are replaced this way. Open the hatch door to the fully open position. Look at the tail light lense. At the top there are two phillip screws securing the entire fixture to the body of the car. Remove the two screws. Pry out gently the entire fixture. In the back you will see the two electrical connections for the bulbs. Turn the bulb socket about a quarter turn and pull toward you. Replace the bulb and reverse the procedure.
