Chrysler Cordoba 1977 with 400 CID, Overheats

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

400 CID with standard replacement radiator.  Overheats under load (sustained speeds in excess of 70 mph in hot weather or when traveling under load (mountains with 6+ degree incline for 4+ miles) Not equiped for trailer pull, but I had no problem with a 78 model with dealer installed trailor options (cooling, breaks, suspension).   Engine recently rebuilt but problem persists.

Check the thermostat. Check the initial timing. Is the carburetor tuning correct? It's not too lean? Is the catalytic converter OK, not beginning to plug up? Belts tight? Can you check the total timing? The initial timing might be OK but if it is advancing too much then it could run hotter but usually it would ping also.
