My 97 gmc sierra 4x4 1500 will not shift while in drive but if I put it in 2 it will move like normal. reverse works great. tranny is full of fluid.
Rpms shoot up to 4-5 when stepping on gas in
drive. It is an automatic. When I manually shift it to
2 it drives fine no spiked rpms.
Transmission slipping in final drive or not engaging properly have the Sierra scanned for transmission codes. Record them. Check the fluid. '97 miles? probably needs a transmission.
Transmission rebuilt a year and a half ago. Not original motor or tranny so miles are inaccurate. Fluid full.
The 4L60-E is found in nearly every GM rear-wheel-drive. Forward sprag is (possibly) broken. Transmission must be removed and rebuilt. Try not to run or drive the car or further damage could result. I can't inspect it from here. Regards
