my 98 z71 transmission will not shift automatically only manually

Is this something new or was it that way when you bought it? I wonder if someone installed a full manual shift kit in it.

I don't think that year had a kick down cable but if so check that its not broke if it does not have a cable then it has a TCM in which case that could be bad it may a clogged screen (tranny service) bad clutches inside trans bad or clogged valve body it is had to say but there are just a few common problems associated with the symptoms u have described one more thing it could also be the torque converter has gone or going bad

Well in that year they put 4l60e or 700r4 they both go bad really easy the 4l60e is way cheaper tho
