No Start After Head Gasket Job

Asked by Michael0024 Mar 08, 2020 at 11:44 AM about the 1998 GMC Sierra 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

1998 GMC Sierra K 1500 350 5.7 Vortec

Head gasket blew. Solved the problem by following this video
( Followed exactly. Put
everything back together and no start. Replaced starter, ignition coil, map
sensor, camshaft position sensor and the distributor/spark plug wires are
new. The rocker arms/valves are tightened perfect (over-compulsively
checked). The distributor points at cylinder 1 on top dead center. All OBD II
codes have been resolved.
It truly feel like I did the job right but somehow I missed the original problem.
The very last time I tried to start the engine (before fixing the head gasket
job) it began to start and then slammed to a stop. I did the head gasket job,
and attacked all OBD II codes (replacing the parts mentioned above).
When I start the truck the started runs and the serpentine belt is turning.
However, there is now normal cranking sound, just a loud starter.
What am I missing?
