Starter

Asked by peterhclarke Jul 07, 2018 at 02:17 PM about the 2002 GMC Envoy

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2002 GMC Envoy  I dont think I was clear about my question a few minutes
ago.   It would not start, I could get it to crank but not start, everything works.
So I started with the fuel pump, fuel filter and starter, oh and battery and
ignition switch.  Same except one very strange thing when I hook the battery
up the startewr immediately engages.  So now I cant hook up the battery.
What did I do wrong to make the starter get a life of its own, where does the
starter get energy to start from, battery obviously.  What unengages it when I
start the car I guess is the better question?

If it was not doing that before replacing the starter I would say you have a wire crossed when you put wires back on.

You do realize that the two wires are of different sizes and it is impossible to wire them backwards?
