possible causes....could it be caused by low coolant...dex

There is a very vague connection. When an engine is running hotter than normal for any reason, there is an increased chance for engine knock/detonation of fuel. Heat increases the energy of any combustion (oxidation) reaction. If won't hurt the knock sensor, if it has one.
