Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have been told four, I can't see how this can be. did some engineer decide that because they suddenly got rid of timing chains we would put in a bunch of rubber

That model of explorer should have a single timing chain setup. I have never seen an engine that had more than one. The single belt helps to keep everything synchronized.

surprisingly enough the 99 models have 3, one in the front and two in the back, assuming u have a 4.0 litre v6 that is. Extra lil piece of info, this particular set-up caused alot of problems and there was a recall on it, but not everyone actualy returned the vehicle, cuz we bought one that stil had the original set-up for the timing, and its been nothing but headaches.

their is 2 timeing belts if you have duel overhead cams, which I doubt that,V8 or V6 is a timeing chain.sounds like someone is pulling your leg on this one, just tobe sure do a google search.
