99 ford explorer 4.0 sohc
My truck lost power while driving and it was hard to
press the brake to stop when I did get to stop it would
stall on me. I can barely get it up to 20 miles an hour
and it's making a loud noise any ideas
Sounds like you have a problem that caused the car to put itself into Limp Mode". The computer is limiting speed to protect the engine from further damage. Limp mode can be caused by several things: cam, crank, or knock sensors; timing, etc. Another possible cause is the transmission itself or the torque converter.
When the engine stops, the power assisted brakes will not function and will require more force to stop the car. "ed" is right, you are probably in limp mode and need to have the cause checked out by a reliable shop.
Thanks of course that is not the answer I was hoping for but I kind of figured it was something like that the bad part is it won't even start now
