No start and Engine cutting out while driving
I have a 2001 Sprinter 313CDI 903 with 611-981 engine.
Problems started a few months back, (1) no start all dash lights on relay click nothing else, after a few tries it would start as normal. (2) engine would cut out while driving for no apparent reason, has happened numerous times under varying conditions. Have checked or replaced all obvious suspects to no avail. Today I notice the SKEEM pick up coil was loose, not fitted snugly to key barrel, I suspect this could account for the no start but what about the engine cutting out? if the ECU detects loss of data or status from key will that cut the engine while in motion? or once started is the key data redundant?
Had 4 fault codes all Fuel related, removed fuse board from stealing column, found corroded pins, cleaned all plugs and sockets especially the ones showing corrosion, also earth lead located on bottom securing bolt was on top of a plastic spacer, could well have moved and become insulated from earthing bolt, moved lead underneath plastic spacer so permanent contact with earthing bolt was achieved. Cleared fault codes, test run no faults shown. Might have fixed problem
