2005 GMC Canyon flashing gear indicator lights.

My father's 2005 Canyon has an issue with
flashing gear indicator lights. The ones indicating
which gear you are currently in, D(drive) 1(first
gear) & 2(second gear) are flashing. Is this the
computer warning of a specific problem or is it a
short in the dash light systems? Thank you!

That's a check light for transmission problems. Check the fluid level & condition. If they are OK, or correcting them doesn't cure the flashing lights, have a trans pro diagnose the problem.
