Will any 1.8 L engine fit in my 1984 subaru station wagon

I have a 84 Subaru wagon. The engine is wore out and I want to put another one in it .
I'm trying to find out if any 1.8 Subaru engine will fit in it? I would like to get a newer one
than 1984
