Have the gear selector switch checked it could be damaged, loose or just plain bad.

Hopefully it’s just loose and needs adjusting.

I hope so. I do not need a costly repair right now. I am also going to have the thumbwheel gear switch checked. it seems that all the positions on the column are off by one space. Reverse is Park and Neutral is Reverse and Drive is D1 or D 2. I did notice that the indicator doesn't go fully in to the gear positions when shifting from Park to Drive etc..., off just a tad. I will have both checked out. Again, thank you for your help.
