95 Dodge Stratus

I was recently given a 95 Dodge stratus from
a very kind neighbor . She and her husband
had it looked over by a mechanic and they
saw no major issues , other than my gas
gage no longer works . Well it has been
driving great for about 3 weeks and all of a
sudden today it starts to putter like I'm
running out of gas then it stalls . I sorta
assumed I ran out of gas even though I have
been adding gas daily just to ensure this
wouldn't happen. I was next to a fas station
so I filled my gas container up and put it in
my car . I was able to get it to the station
where I put $10 more in my tank . When I
finally got it started again it seemed like its
not getting enough gas or something to
make it go , all its doing is puttering then
stalls . What could the problem possibly be ?

Update : I changed the fuel pump and fuel filter , which was a pain in the butt because the filter is under the gas tank , but after everything was replaced , I am happy to report my car is running great again .
