I have a 1995 dodge dakota with a 318CI/5.2L that keeps failing emissions testing for hydrocarbons... any ideas?

im assumingyou live in a state where they give vehicles the "sniffer"? if so theirs really nothing that can be done, the whole "sniffer" idea is to set the hydrocarbon allowance so low that vehicles like yours CANT ever pass the emissions test in your state thus forcing you to buy a newer car or truck

My Dak is a 94: I drove ~ 300 miles after pouring a "guaranteed to pass" can of liquid; went through again; it passed. They asked me what repair I had gone through and I told them. Two years later I'm going through the same cycle. Failed with (HC) 2.35gm/mi; std 1.6; failed with (NOX) 5.48; std. 3.00. I'm going to change wires, plugs, distributor, put Chevron gas, another can of chemical, look for vacuum leaks (my cruise control stopped working, methinks it's a vacuum leak somewhere), and maybe even change my catalytic converter. That should be less than the cost of a new truck.
