Helicoil, or Time Sert will work, but that Dorman oversize bolt is probably best. No, no need to buy new part

The dorman bolt can't be reused at the next brake change per manufacturers instructions

Ok...well you are thinking ahead, which is a good thing, so next time either a Helicoil or Time Sert, or one of those now instead of bolt. But I see your point, mechanics will use the Dorman bolt because it's easier, they are self-tapping. Works well to have done a safe brake job, and likely never tells customer the situation. Maybe tell them he had to use 'special bolt' for an excuse to charge a bit more, but not what is in store for next time. Or even if the mechanic stripped the threads himself and never tells customer, and they don't find out until next time for pads.

Thanks for the info. Got the helicoil to work. I'm not a car guru. Just a driveway mechanic by necessity. The tap kit was $60.00 bucks so I just started with an equal fitting tap to the stripped threads and worked my way through, one tap at a time until I got to the die size that the helicoil threaded into. What a pain in the ass! It worked in the end. Can I use another helicoil on my next brake job? Provided the tapped threads are still good.
