can you crack the thermastat housing when changing the coolant sensor in a 99 dodge intrepid

the coolant sensor was replaced . ... and now after driving no more than thirty
miles and got home.. under the hood was smoking,, when opened the hood
the antifreeze was spitting out all over the engine and leaking ...( lost about
1/2 gallon) from the top off the housing between the two hoses!!!

Yes. I would take off the old housing and replace it. The coolant temperature sensor would need some Teflon Tape to seal the threads when reinstalling.
