What can be the cause of the transmission in my 1964 Rambler not to go in high gear

First check the vacuum hose going to the vacuum modulator. Make sure it's not leaking. Make sure the shifter linkage is properly adjusted. Check your shop manual and see if the bands need periodic adjustment. Some did back in those days. Check your ignition timing. Make sure it's set correctly. If the engine has been running hot and possibly boiling over when you shut it off you probably have a worn timing chain. One of the symptoms of a worn timing chain is late transmission shifting.
