I have a 2000 Dodge Durango. The locks suddenly started acting like it was possesed. It would try to lock the doors but couldn't. I would push the switch to lock the doors. They would lock and then immediately unlock. As I was driving it continued to make noises like it was trying to lock the doors but couldn't. After I parked and got out I came back a little while later, opened the door and it started making the noise again like it was trying to lock the doors. I can lock and unlock with key while turned off. I was told it would continue to try this while turned off so I removed the fuse to prevent it from running my battery down.

The door lock cylinders are shot. You will have to replace them. This was a known issue for 2000-2003 models. Usually occurs around 150k.
