Clicking 2 to 3 times when turning the key but then
starts. Is my starter going bad?

make sure batt. terminals and all others are clean and tight , some starters are junk out of the box and can't take the heat

These starters have a set of contacts inside the solenoid that wear down so the contact ring has trouble making contact, most parts stores have these contacts and even some will install them if you bring in the starter. A shop will want to replace the starter assembly so it will be covered by thier warranty should anything go wrong. They might replace the contacts for you but there will be no warranty.
