Low oil presure on a M42 318I engine

Asked by kuartermaster Oct 09, 2015 at 11:18 PM about the 1991 BMW 3 Series

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have been told there are 2 oil check valves on this engine.
1 on the canister oil filter
the 2nd under the intake manifold.
All specs out... have a pressure reading of 5 PSi S/B 25
Doesn't change when u rev the motor. Is there a check valve under the
manifold? Or any ideas what it might be.

On a '91 3 series it could be a bad gauge or a plugged line or a faulty sender- that is an ancient car and unless the engine has been rebuilt at some point with a new oil pump, I would suspect that pump is wearing out-
