no heat after replacing heater core

Asked by Feb 14, 2016 at 10:01 AM about the 2001 Dodge Intrepid

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2001 dodge intrepid, i recently had the
heater core replaced because my floor boards
were staying wet and my overflow for antifreeze
was starting to boil over causing lots of white
smoke coming from my back exhaust and under
my hood. My buddy decided it was the heater core.
Everything was great after the core was replaced
but now I have no heat unless I'm doing 40+ but
even then it only heats up a little and as soon as I
let off of the gas it's back to ice cold. Plz give me
suggestions on how to get this fixed asap.

Sound like the cooling system needs to be purged from air. Leave the radiator cap off and warm up the engine, let it run, coolant may be pushed out of the radiator, that would be the air working its way out, keep filling when the level drops, have the heater set on hot. run until you feel heat coming out, and the heater hoses are hot. Put the cap on the radiator before turning the engine off. Make sure the reservoir has coolant in it, up to the hot line when motor is hot. Cool line when cold.
