why does transmission get stuck in park

got stuck in park for several minutes but I let it sit while i called my husband. when I got back to the car i tried again and everything was fine.

Yes it could be the shifter release solenoid or the brake light switch, either way the shifter is stuck in Park. To get my car out of Park I turned to key to the start position, or actually started the car. Then turn the key back one position. Without pressing the brake pedal you can shift out of park. You then can shift to neutral, start the car and get moving, at least you can move the vehicle or get it to a repair shop to replace the brake light switch and the shifter release solenoid if needed.

Were having the same problem but we heard a lod pop and then got stuck in park its a 2002 ford windstar... waiting for tow truck

its stuck in park wont come out and can not turn switch to get started and try to take switch out but cant do that eathet it wont go to on to start will not turn on stuck and shifter is stuck
