I have a 2002 grand caravan and the passenger side sliding door is jammed

Asked by gypsy105 May 11, 2015 at 11:53 PM about the 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The door lock is stuck in the down position. I can't lift it up to unlock the door. The automatic door open and unlock does not work on that door. The outside handle can be pulled but nothing happens. What can I do?

I had a similar problem with my 2007 Caravan door lock that was stuck in the unlocked position. The problem was the power lock actuator. You can buy a new actuator at your local Dodge dealer or get an aftermarket part at auto part store- just be sure it is for your model of vehicle. Check U-tube for how to remove door panel and replace the lock actuator. You might want to test the old actuator first by detaching the arm that connects to the actuator and hitting the remote lock. If actuator doesn't move, disconnect and remove it. Plug the wire harness into the new actuator and hit remote lock to see if it moves. If it moves back and forth with other locks, then complete the installation. You just saved yourself the labor cost$$$

I just fixed my 2007 passenger side sliding door the neanderthal way. It would not open although I could hear the electronic lock operate. I unlocked it with the remote, then used my hand and banged the rear post from the inside of the car where the lock would engage when closed. When I did this, the door opened and I used WD40 to spray the lock mechanism. It's been working fine since.
