2001 Ford Taurus Stops Driving And Starts Whining

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My sister was driving her 2001 Ford Taurus to the store and was running fine and
then there was no power to the wheels and rolled for a little bit then just stopped.
Now when the gas is pressed it just makes a really loud wine noise and gets louder
when pressed down further and won't move. She had all of her liquids filled up and
everything was good according to the mechanic but I'm stumped. Got any ideas on
what it could be?

Is the transmission fluid level OK? If so the transmission is probably shot.

Transmission, but you say it ran fine before? Usually there will be some signs like slipping or high RPM's to get moving. If it is the transmission I would suggest junking the car.
