2002 Dodge Caravan will start and run for a few seconds, die, then won't start.

Asked by Chirvden Aug 27, 2018 at 03:30 PM about the 2002 Dodge Caravan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

A 2002 Dodge Caravan.  Engine will start for a few seconds, then dies.
Then it wont start or run at all.  A day or two later it might start for a few
seconds again.

Replaced the crank position sensor as recommended by one web site.  No
change.

Wondering if it could be a plugged fuel filter or bad fuel pump.

The air filter? Is that a serious assessment? I’m not being sarcastic, but I’ve never heard of a dirty air filter being the cause of an engine not wanting to start. Can you please explain?

25,540 next to firebird so I would probably take it seriously. In my case the 2004 won't start, intermittently..I check under the hood, re-clamp the airbox clamp that has come undone, and then it starts right up.

Thanks for the clarification, we will watch for that in the future. However, we did finally zero in on the issue, it was a bad fuel pump relayer.
