where is the camshaft position sensor located on a 1995 GMC K 2500 and Starter question

Asked by DEC Apr 05, 2010 at 11:31 AM about the 1995 GMC Sierra C/K 2500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I replaced the starter on my 95' GMC 4x4 and now it sounds like a lawn mower when the starter turns. The truck will start after about four cycles of the starter and runs fine.Is this a normal sound on the newer starters? Does the camshaft sensor cause a problem like the sound explained and where is this sensor located? Thanks.

starter may need to be shimmed...either that or youve got the wires hooked up wrong..power on power will grind the starter....usually if a cam/crank sensor fails a vehicle wont even start.

The problem was the battery.I purchased a battery at the same time and was sold one with too low cranking amps, so it would not turn the starter fast enough. Also the 95 model does not have a cam sensor. Thanks

Starter needs shimmed or one or more removed.Could be the wrong starter splines.Wrong starter.Take the starter back exchange it for a 1994 starter.Just because, your title says it's a 95 it's a 95.It was made in 1994.I had the same problem.Ended up getting a stater from the later yr worked like a charm. You could of also cracked the fly wheel,Transmission housing.Check your fly wheel teeth count and condition as well.I would put money on it and say you have the wrong starter.
