Popping noise

Asked by Briana Mar 30, 2018 at 03:22 PM about the 1996 GMC Sierra C/K 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 96 gmc z71 k1500 made a popping noise after
plugs and wires were changed. On take off it
popped 3-4 times then drove good. Did this on
each take off. When I put in reverse and gave a
little gas it died. Any suggestions would be
appreciated

go back recheck wires make sure there back in proper firing order and tite at plugs and cap and cap is on properly

Did that already. Also checked under cap to make sure there wasn't any cracks or carbon cracks

Were the spark plugs put in tight, now do not over tight and strip thread but may need to see if loose or if something was left un-done or damaged.

They are in tight and I felt each wire pop on to the plug when installed but check them too!

Sounds like a plug wire is in the wrong position if that is all you did was plugs & wires and none of the other electrical connection were loosened or broken.

Did you also lay the plugs side by side to compare them to be sure they were the same length ect.?

No I did not, I was never taught to do that! I still have my old ones so I will check that!! Thank you!

Your welcome, otherwise you will need to find the firing order and make sure its is still in correct order. (Its easy to make a mistake and get a plug wire on the wrong plug position).
