1989 gmc the brake light in the instrument cluster stays on

I'm restoring a 1989 GMC 1500 5.7 short bed and having problems with the instrument cluster. speedometer not working shift light comes on and brake light stays on. but the check engine light no the check gauges light comes on. Can you help

i would say you most likely have a ground issue. ensure you have a good body ground. disconnect clean and re connect
