I have a 1989 Chevy 1 ton c3500. The fudge tells me it's getting hot but it doesn't run like it's hot. I've had the radiator rodded and the gauge says it's getting hot still.

I took the thermostat out to see if I had flow
in the radiator and I do. I put a kitchen
thermometer in the radiator with it running
and it said 180. Could I be getting a false
reading?

With the ignition on I unplugged the wire from the sensor and the gauge read zero. I then grounded it to an alternator bolt and it maxed out. Is this an indicator that the sensor is bad?
