Can my 89 k2500 run without air pump.

Bought my 3rd adjustable fuel regulator kit and it was the jet billet with new
gauge and high pressure diaphragm and I can go up to 20 lbs. runs a lot
better....... However it still has a bog at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle from a dead stop
and if you pump the gas real fast it backfires through tbi. I found out today
that the air pump was taken off and the holes were welded up on the exhaust
manifold and selinoid was taken out. But I think this causes the ecm to keep
the unit in closed loop therefore running bad when warmed up and also not
forcing more oxygen down the exhaust to prevent backfire. (See photo) can I
somehow get around this. It works with the temperature sensor that is by the
thermostat as well. Maybe trick the computer or wire a switch to the ecm

It won't make it run bad. As long as it doesn't have a vacuum leak it will be fine. BTW closed loop is good. It's open when cold and closed when warmed up.
