Salvaging a 1989 Chevy C1500

Asked by Feb 09, 2018 at 02:07 PM about the 1989 Chevrolet C/K 1500

Question type: Car Selling & Trading In

I have a 1989 Chevy C1500 non-running. I think I blew the motor. Just want to
know how much to expect from salvage as I don't want to put any more money
into repairs.

Not running means it is worth a few hundred dollars. Installing an engine will run around 5 grand, cheaper if you install a used engine.

Yep just get a used engine....

I've already put a rebuilt engine into it once. Then had to put out more than $600 in other repairs last year. Just don't think it is worth continuing to put more money into. That's why I thought about salvaging it or selling it as is.

It's worth about 125 dollars per ton

Evidently you can't tell a Right piston from a Left !!! Go ahead and keep through good money after bad

you right I can't tell the difference. I have learned a few things over the years from my husband but he isn't around anymore to teach me anything else. If I knew how to do it myself I would as this truck has been a good truck for me since my husband bought it brand new. I just don't know enough about repairs to attempt something like this by myself.

Especially at my age.
