Please help

Question type: General

My 1988 Chevy k1500 with 700r4 transmission is
not shifting right my nephew burned out second
gear had that fixed drove it in the yard and reverse
went out pulled transmission again had it rebuildt
but it doesn't want to shift out of first sometimes
other times it shifts just fine it will go up to 4000
rpm and still not shift
