wont engage after loud pop

A loud pop isn't a sound you want to hear. It could be a clutch or transmission problem. Without more detailed information, and without seeing the car, it's not possible to be more accurate than that. First check the clutch to see if it moves: might be broken clutch mechanism or a cylinder. If clutch is OK, you probably broke a drive in the transmission or the spline/disk in the clutch.
